Cyprus On My Mind...

by Deacon Maccubbin
(Washington DC US)

A couple of years ago, the Washington Post ran a feature article in their travel section about Cyprus. I was captivated by the island's history, especially the area around Ancient Salamis. I clipped that article and put it in my "Places I Want to Visit" file. It's still right at the top of the list. I'd like a chance to see and photograph the architectural digs there. The Byzantine monasteries and churches in the Troodos Mountains draw my attention, too. And the foods and wines beg to be sampled, preferably at a small taverna where you can sit outside and enjoy the gorgeous weather and the passing pedestrian traffic. Of course, I won't be able to spend ALL my time eating and hiking -- those pristine beaches that attracted the Greeks and Romans centuries ago still attract me today. Yes, I think I could really enjoy time spent adjusting to the luscious life of Cyprus.
