Fancy getting out of town or the resort? Then a bus could be your answer. As far as public transport in Cyprus goes, buses are the best answer as there are no trains. In the South-East of the island, there's a main bus that runs every day, that links Paralimni and Protaras with Ayia Napa. This stops at most of the main beaches along the bay, such as Macronissos, Nissi, Cape Greco and Fig Tree and finishes at the Water world waterpark. Buses start running at 09:00hrs and finish at 23:00hrs, Monday to Saturday. They run from 09:00hrs to 17:00hrs on a Sunday and it'll set you back 1.50 (one way). In fact, there are a number of buses linking the main cities of Larnaca, Nicosia and Limassol. ![]() Late evening, taxis would be your best optionThe typical taxis in Cyprus are very comfortable stretch Mercedes Benz, with clean leather interiors. You'll always ride in style. They are either black or white and you can find a busy taxi stand in most towns. Rather than rely on a meter, agree a fare before heading to your destination. ![]() Travelling from and to Larnaca airport by Bus?An airport shuttle service links Cyprus main international airport at Larnaca with the island's main cities. This shuttle service desk can be found on your left hand side when leaving Larnaca Arrivals. This is a Government decision to aid locals and visitors to travel cheaply to and from Larnaca airport. The cost of this bus service is as follows:
This bus service will run in co-ordination with the flight arrivals and departures at Larnaca airport More information about timetables can be obtained from Cyprus Tourist Organisation. Travelling from and to Larnaca airport by Taxi? When travelling by taxi to tourist resorts from the airport, there are special deals to be had. Don't be tempted to grab the first taxi at the airport, do your research and book online. This will save you money in the long run. As I say, taxis in Cyprus aren't the only option. So, if you intend spending most of your time around the resort or town and not going far... Hire a MopedIf you're the adventurous type, then mopeds are great for zipping about town and to the beach. I don't have to say they're more economical than a car and parking is a lot handier. Almost any car rental places have them available and are cheaper to rent out than a car. I will say be more careful, especially if you're thinking of leaving the resort and gunning down the main roads or highway on one. It is illegal to ride without a helmet in Cyprus, so best to wear one. Hire off road quads and buggiesFor the sheer novelty factor, you could hire a quad or buggy. Again, they're great for nipping around town but also for driving off road. There are numerous dirt tracks to be taken advantage of, which offer spectacular views of the coastline. They in turn lead you to some stunning beaches, some real gems. However, dont drive on the actual beaches, one reason being sea turtles nesting in the summer time or causing havoc with sunbathers! ![]() If you dont fancy any of the above methods, then one of the best alternatives to taxis in Cyprus would be sticking to old fashioned car hire!
