I think it’s safe to say when it comes to saving money, we’re all eager to know more. So, if you’re currently renovating or even just thinking about updating your bathroom, we have some wise words from interior influencer, Chloe.

Earlier this year we worked with Chloe to help her produce her dream bathroom. She came to us with a strong vision of what she wanted from her bathroom, and she hasn’t disappointed. Better yet, she has created the most beautiful space, whilst saving incredible amounts of money, with the help of her finance Aaron.

Chloe is 24 and recently bought a miners cottage built in 1880 with her partner Aaron. She has a full time job and does interior influencing on the side. Even though she hates the word influencer, Chloe does a beautiful job at sharing her life and home online to her 31.6k followers.

‘The cottage caught my eye just before it went to auction and I was IN LOVE. There is something so warming about the large open hallway and it truly was a gem waiting to be polished up.

I knew this house was gasping for an extension and even though we weren’t sure if it was possible, we went for it and Aaron DIY built our two storey extension by hand during furlough!‘

‘Pinterest truly was my best friend (and still is!) I save images that inspire me and then collectively analyse similarities amongst them to help decide what features are a priority and then I get to hand draw on my iPad my ideas before using computer aided design to bring it together!‘

‘It took months of preparation! I picked up inspiration from hotels I had been to or seen online and then of course, Pinterest.‘

‘DIY. It’s the only way you can save a reasonable amount of money really as labour costs are incredibly high and sometimes tradesmen are unreliable because they’re so busy right now, catching up with work after the pandemic.‘

How Much Did You Save On Labour Costs By Doing It By Yourselves

‘We never got a quote however, after adding up the average costs of labour we believe it is around the £10,000 mark. Our bathroom was quite an intricate design which included knocking walls down, re positioning a window, building an additional shower nook, bespoke carpentry work and lots of electrical work. It was a back to brick renovation so, very expensive in labour costs.‘

Money Saving Do It Yourself Tips

We aren’t all as fortunate to land a partner with insane DIY skills like Aaron, but there are plenty of smaller things that you can try and complete without paying for a tradesman.

Here’s a list of some of the things you can do yourself, that will take a big % of your labour bill.

Rip your existing bathroom out yourself – Yes this will take some elbow grease and might be end up taking more time – but it’s another £100+ off the billTiling/painting – if you’re up for the challenge, done your research and have the time, why not tackle some tiling? This could save you thousands on your bill.Build your own shelves – you can purchase shelving or even go wild and completely create your own floating shelves with rope and a rectangular piece of wood.Install your own taps – I know this might sound scary but there are some good youtube tutorials on how to do this yourself and it doesn’t look too daunting.

Disclaimer – we love a DIY hack but please never tamper with gas – Please call a plumber, avoid any hazardous conditions.

1 – Contemporary Bathrooms (1,022 boards)

In first place is contemporary bathrooms with 1,022 Pinterest boards.

Contemporary style bathrooms will always be popular, with their ability to create such a clean and simple spacious environment.

Focus on creating sleek lines when choosing showers, baths, and fixtures – opting for square and rectangular styles where possible.

Next up is Victorian bathrooms with 1,021 Pinterest boards, a similar style to traditional bathrooms in 4th place

The complete opposite to contemporary, getting the Victorian style right is about choosing statement traditional features and putting details into the décor.

A free-standing roll top bath is probably the most popular feature of a Victorian style bathroom.

Choosing one with brass, silver or gold feet and then matching with handles, mirrors and lighting fixtures can really tie the whole thing together.

Using encaustic tiles will finish off the look by bringing some decadence to the room.

3 – Industrial Bathrooms (1,020 boards)

Industrial bathrooms are the third most popular style with 1,020 boards.

When creating an industrial style bathroom, it is all about bringing together raw and tough materials.

Brick and steel are a great place to start, and you can use warm lighting to soften the look a little too.

Grid shower enclosures are a simple way of introducing the industrial look to your bathroom, opt for matt black fittings for a complete striking finish.

4 -Traditional Bathrooms (1,013 boards)

Traditional style bathroom space

Similar to the Victorian style, traditional bathrooms exude a feeling of a bygone era.

Pair striking chrome fixtures with extravagant details and a deep freestanding bathtub to really enhance the feeling of decadence.

Explore brassware ranges to find a colour and a style that you love and use wood panels and dramatic black and white flooring to complete the look.

5 – Modern Bathrooms (1,007 boards)

A modern bathroom space

Modern can mean different things to different people, but it usually means a more monochrome look with geometric shapes and patterns.

The perfect modern bathroom space combines neutral colour schemes with more natural finishes.

It should be neat and tidy – and, of course, modern – but not cold and clinical.

6 – Farmhouse Bathrooms (1,000 boards)

Farmhouse bathrooms are synonymous with the cottagecore bathroom trend that we have seen all over social media in 2021.

Combining period features and timeless furniture with vintage finds will help you create this cute and cosy look.

7 – Transitional Bathrooms (995 boards)

Transitional bathroom space

Transitional bathrooms can be defined as having “borrowed” styles and ideas from a range of design eras.

Pure white porcelain is often commonplace in this design scheme, but being brave with colours can enhance the look too.

Finish in gold brassware and pair with cast iron towel rails and statement flooring designs to really make a space pop.

8 – Rustic Bathrooms (992 boards)

a rustic bathroom space

A rustic bathroom space should be warm, welcoming and entirely unpretentious.

Fusing more traditional elements with chic and contemporary styling, a rustic bathroom should have a charm and elegance all of its own.

Using raw and organic elements, handmade and artisan styles feature heavily in a neo-rustic bathroom, and look amazing when used well.

9 – Mediterranean Bathrooms (793 boards)

A mediterranean bathroom style.

Although not at the top of the popularity list, we have seen an increase in interest in this trend over the past year.

With people not being able to jet off on holiday as easily, Brits have been wanting to bring these calming and dreamy styles into their homes in the UK.

For a Mediterranean bathroom, use warm colours such as terracotta and carmine and include earthy tones wherever possible.

If designing your own Mediterranean bathroom, it’s important to consider how each element works with the other, especially when borrowing designs from different areas of the region.

10 – Beach-Style Bathrooms (532 boards)

For a beach style bathroom use coastal inspired colours such as white and blue and bring in natural materials such as driftwood and shells for ornamentation.

To take this style one step further, look at introducing bright pastel shades and shell tiles to enhance the look and finish with matt black brassware for added drama.
